Mike Peters bags a Sparrow for Christmas

When it comes to knowing what you want from a custom guitar then 30 years touring in an internationally acclaimed rock and roll band should help make your mind up.

When Mike Peters of the Alarm decided he needed a new guitar to enhance his presence as the new front man for a reformed Big Country - the twin guitar dervishes of mid-eighties chart fame - he came to the conclusion that the Canadian luthiers Sparrow had exactly what he wanted.Sparrow guitars are somewhat at a premium at the moment as their Vancouver warehouse recently burnt down decimating global stocks of these fine instruments.

The company produces a stunning array of retro-instruments including highly desirable Road Rat Les Pauls, twangmaster Telecasters and Gibson 335 and Gretsch style hollow-body electrics in standard, pro and custom artwork formats. Duff MacKagan (G'n'R) is already a convert to the brand.

We helped Mike track down the Sparrow Big Daddy pro custom artwork model that he had his eye on and delivered it in time for his three days of Big Country production rehearsals set out for a sunny Glasgow between Christmas and New year.

Mike is a true rock and roller who never stops working and follows the Big Country dates during the first week of January with his Alarm 2011 showpiece The Gathering, staged at Pontins, Prestatyn, over the last weekend of January 20011.Big Country will be special guests on the Friday night of the event.

A small amount of Tickets are still available for the Gathering 2011. Contact www.thealarm.com for more details.
